Requirements

  • You have completed at least 12 years of education at authorized schools and obtained a graduation certificate with excellent academic records.
  • You have passed the JLPT N4 or higher or studied Japanese for 150 hours or more.
  • You have the ability to pay all expenses while studying in Japan.

Necessary documents

Documents regarding the applicant
  1. 5 photographs (H 40 mm x W 30 mm) (Taken within the past month. Write your name and nationality on the back of the photographs.)
  2. Application form (Designated by the school. Filled in by the applicant.)
  3. Curriculum vitae (Designated form. Filled in by the applicant. Make sure to provide complete information without leaving any time period left blank.)
  4. Original copy of the certificate of graduation from the last school you attended (Submit the original copy of the Certificate of Higher Education if you have completed a college or higher level of education)
  5. Original copy of the academic records (Submit the original copy of the Certificate of Academic Records if you have taken the National College Entrance Examination)
  6. Copy of Hukou (For Chinese students only; pages of all family members required)
  7. Documents proving that you passed the JLPT N4 or higher
  8. If 5 years or more have passed since you last graduated from school, submit the purpose of studying Japanese and specific plans after studying Japanese.
Documents regarding financial ability
  1. Financial ability statement (Designated form. Filled in by the payer. Provide correct information and stamp your seal.)
  2. Original copy of Notary of Kinship (Document proving the relationship between the applicant and the payer)
  3. Proof of employment (Certificate of employment if the payer is a company employee. Business license or company registration if the payer is a company representative, executive officer or private business owner.)
  4. Account balance statement (The one valid until the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility for Status of Residence)
  5. Documents proving how financial assets were formed (bank passbook, etc.)
  6. Other related documents
    If the payer lives abroad Documents proving the relationship between the payer and the applicant (Copies of Hukou of all family members)
    Proof of income (If the payer is a company employee, proof of income for the past four years is necessary.)
    Proof of taxation that shows the income (for the past three years) (If the payer is a private business owner or a company representative)
    If the payer lives in Japan Certificate of Residence (of all family members)
    Proof of taxation (Proof of income tax payment that shows the income, for the past three years)
